The Tourist Development Council has endorsed a proposal to increase Palm Beach County’s tourism tax from 5 percent to 6 percent.
The advisory board backed a recommendation that will be considered later this summer by the County Commission, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Currently the county imposes a 5 percent “bed tax” on bills for hotels, condominium rentals, bed-and-breakfasts and other short-term accommodations.
If approved the tax would take effect January 1, adding an additional $14 to the typical $1,400.40 bill for a four-night stay at the beach during peak season. [PBP] – Christopher Cameron
