In response to public concerns about All Aboard Florida — the $1.5 billion Orlando-to-Miami passenger rail project — Governor Rick Scott has asked the Federal Railroad Administration to give residents additional time to weigh in on the proposal.
Scott sent a letter to FRA Administrator Joseph Szabo requesting a 90-day extension to a public comment period, according to the South Florida Business Journal.
An environmental impact study must be completed, reviewed and approved by the FRA before All Aboard Florida can kick off construction.
When completed, the project will extend 240 miles and include stops in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and downtown Miami. [SFBJ] – Christopher Cameron
