Following a city council vote the old – an long vacant– Boynton Beach High School building will remain a historic landmark, but the buildings zoning will revert to public/private government use.

“My opinion is this is the right time to take action,” City Attorney James Cherof  said. “I think it’s a benefit to the city to do that.”

The debate began with the building’s zoning was changed to mixed-use to aid Lake Worth architect Juan Contin’s plan to use private money to build an events and destinations center on the site. City commissioners voted the plan down and now developer Boynton Old School Partnership LLC is suing the city, according to the Palm Beach Post.

“It sets the table back to where it was,” Commissioner Michael Fitzpatrick said. “I don’t see this as being detrimental to saving or not saving the school.” [PBP] Christopher Cameron
