For the fifth time in ten years, Palm Beach County commissioners postponed a controversial zoning request to allow development at an abandoned golf course west of Boca Raton.
After a seven-hour meeting, commissioners voted 5-2 to delay a decision until June.
Developers James and Robert Comparato hope to build 288 residences — including 140 homes, 106 condominium units and 42 townhouses — on the 130-acre site, dubbed Mizner Trail Golf Club, according to the Palm Beach Post.
“We are trying to accommodate a very small minority at the expense of a very large majority,’’ said Commissioner Jess Santamaria, who voted against the postponement.
Locals are split over the decision to develop, with many arguing that they purchased their home to overlook a golf course, not a housing development. Others contend the defunct course is overgrown and an eyesore as it is. [PBP] – Christopher Cameron
