The Florida Legislature could change the state law governing vacation rentals, which are prevalent in South Florida.

State senators moved to ease the 2011 law prohibiting local governments from making or changing rules regarding vacation rentals on Wednesday. The Florida House is mulling similar legislation. A property leased out more than three times a year for less than 30 days at a time is considered a short-term rental.

South Florida is the top short-term rental market in the nation, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The sector gave Florida a $31.1 billion boost in 2013 alone. A total of 17 million tourists in the state used short-term rentals instead of hotel rooms last year. [Sun-Sentinel]Eric Kalis
