The North Miami Beach council has voted 3-2 to allow a developer to build a multi-million-dollar home with a rooftop terrace in the Eastern Shores neighborhood of North Miami Beach.

The council did deny the developer, Abraham Galsky, a height variance that would have allowed for an elevator in the home located on the 3100 block of Northeast 165th Street.

In a surprise move, two council members abstained from the vote regarding the minimalist, four-bedroom, 6,300-square-foot home, which is expected to list for $4.2 million. They declined to vote due to conflicts of interest, according to the Miami Herald.

“I have five children and it is exactly something my wife and I want for the future,” council member Frantz Pierre said referencing his interest in purchasing the home.

Council member Phyllis Smith, a licensed real estate agent, abstained from voting, saying that she was involved in a contract on a house.

“I am negotiating a different contract in a different area, and the people I’m negotiating with have met with the owners and they have spoken to me about this project,” said Smith. [Miami Herald]Christopher Cameron
